ARS EUSA Regional Seminar Held on December 5 in Philadelphia
The first of two ARSEUSA educational seminars to be held this year was held at the Seroonian Community Hall of Sts. Gregory’s Church in Philadelphia, PA, hosted by the Ani and Artemis Philadelphia chapters. After a lovely breakfast, Ungh. Talin Daghlian, chairwoman of the ARS of Eastern USA welcomed the gathering of over 100 ungerouhis and friends. A moment of silence was requested to remember the late Unger Albert and Ungh. Queenie Bagian, ARS benefactors from Philadelphia. Ungh. Silva Takvorian-Kouyoumdjian, of ARSCE, led us in the singing of the ARS anthem.
Ungh. Karine Shamlian served as moderator of the panel discussion. She currently is the Marketing Director for Clean Markets, LLC, a leading market development firm focused on growing market share for clean energy solutions. She also serves on the Board of Directors of the Association of Energy Services Professionals’ Mid-Atlantic chapter. Ungh. Karine is a member of the Philadelphia Ani ARS chapter.
The topic addressed to the panelists was “Let’s Answer the Call”- how our organization can successfully recruit new dedicated members and keep these members active in our projects. Panelists included Ungh. Arsine Oshagan of Philadelphia, Ungh. Nora Kzirian of Philadelphia, and Ungh. Nora Simonian of Providence. Much consensus revolved around members and their hectic, busy lives. They believe in the ARS goals, but haven’t made the ARS a priority in their personal lives. Therefore, it was suggested that the ARS doesn’t change its objectives and outlook, but finds ways to partner and mentor members of youth organizations and engage them to be involved in ARS projects and programs of which they can relate. Hopefully, these discussions can develop into membership goals for the ARS in the near future.
After a delicious prepared lunch, the seminar reconvened to hear the ARSCE report of the 71st ARS International Convention, held in October in Yerevan, Armenia. A power point with visuals was presented by Ungh. Caroline Chamavonian, ARSCE Chairwoman, outlining the worldwide programs and projects discussed at the convention.
Special thank you to the Philadelphia Ani and Artemis ARS chapters who graciously hosted this successful educational seminar. We look forward to a second seminar in the spring in the New England area.
